Ireland 1-5 Great Britain

Ireland will feature in the seventh-place play-off after suffering defeat in their final group game of the 7-a-side Paralympic soccer tournament.

Having lost 6-0 and 7-1 to Ukraine and Brazil in their opening two games, JJ Glynn's side looked set to ship another massive score after conceding twice in the opening five minutes against a GB side hungry for their first win of the tournament.

Britain continued to press through the opening 30 minutes, with Brian McGillivary pulling off a series of fabulous saves to keep Ireland in the game.

Ireland threatened sporadically through pacy forward Tomi Badun, who brought a fine save out of Britain's Giles Moore, but the game was over as a contest with a pair of goals conceded in first-half injury-time.

David Porcher's free-kick hit the post but rebounded into the net off an Irish defender before the same player created a chance for team-mate James Blackwell to provide a neat first-time finish.

The Irish side improved dramatically after the break at both ends of the pitch, and finally got their reward when substitute Conor Tuite headed home after Michael Barker failed to clear when Gary Messett's shot was saved by Moore.

"I'm disappointed with the result but the performance was much, much better," Glynn told RTÉ Sport. "We've conceded early goals in all three games and when you do that it's an uphill task.

"We had the toughest group, if we had been in the other group we might have made the semi-final. Now we've to play America in two days' time and we'll try and win that game."
