Laurence McGivern has had an impressive 2012. He was not part of the initial Irish panel, but his personal best performance of 1.07.30 in Hamm, Germany, in early June provided him with the Paralympic A standard and subsequent selection to the Irish team for London 2012.

McGivern, who was not part of the Irish panel for a number of years, made gradual improvements over the last year, placing eighth in the 2011 European Champioinships in the 100m backstroke, climbing to eighth in the world rankings and shaving three seconds off his previous personal best of 1.10.34 in the space of six months.

He will be aiming to continue his progression in his first Paralympics in London 2012.
