James Scully began swimming with the NAC swimming club in 2006 under the eye of former Irish Paralympic gold medallist, Dave Malone.

Scully won Swim Ireland’s 2011 Disability Swimmer of the Year Award on the back of a successful season for the young Ratoath swimmer.

He finished fourth at the 2010 World Championships and fourth again at the 2011 European Championship in his favoured 200m freestyle.

Some other significant results were his fifth-place finish in the 200m individual medley and his sixth-place finish in the 50m freestyle.

Scully has combined his preparations for London 2012 with his studies in Maynooth and looks set to make a big impact in London in his first Paralympic Games.
