James McCarthy was a junior javelin world champion in 1990 and competed at Atlanta 1996. In Atlanta, he came 13th in the shot put.
McCarthy has returned to field athletics in a bid to make his second Paralympic Games. He is now focusing on the shot put event and continues to make great progress.
London 2012 would bridge a 16-year gap since he featured at the Atlanta Games.
