Rhys McClenaghan claimed gold in the pommel final at the Antalya World Cup in Turkey as Irish gymnasts dominated the podium places.

McClenaghan, in just his second event since his return from a lengthy injury-enforced absence, recorded a winning score of 13.900 to see off Zeinolla Idrissov of Kazakstan. Dubliner James Hickey bagged bronze after an impressive display from the teenager.

Eamon Montgomery delivered a third medal at the Olympic qualifier, securing silver in the floor exercise with a score of 13.833, with Eldrew Yulo of the Philippines winning the event and Spain's Rayderley Zapata filling third spot.

Elsewhere, Nicola Tuthill won silver at the European Throwing Cup in Nicosia, achieving a new personal best of 72.48m in the hammer throw.

It improves on the 71.75m Tuthill threw in August of last year, and moves her closer to Eileen O'Keeffe’s national record of 73.21m.

Tuthill has a tumultuous relationship with the European Throwing Cup. In Leiria in 2022, the UCD athlete suffered a fractured and dislocated elbow during the women’s Under-23 hammer competition.

She returned the following year to become the first Irish athlete to win a medal at the event, claiming silver - a result she repeated the following year.

In Nicosia last year, Tuthill became the first Irish gold medallist at the European Throwing Cup, winning the Under-23 hammer title.
