Ireland's Jake Passmore has finished in 17th place in the semi-final of the three-metre Springboard at the World Aquatic Championships in Doha, Qatar this morning.
The 18-year-old will now have to wait until June to find out if he will receive an invitation to the Paris Olympic Games, having failed to reach the top 12.
Passmore’s overall score was 364.50. It reflected higher scores in four out his six dives from the preliminary entry but was not good enough to qualify for Paris yet.
He said: "I’m a bit disappointed with the result, because I knew I could finish higher up, but I’m still proud of how far I’ve come from last year and hopefully I can improve again next year."
Passmore will return to the boards on Saturday for the Mixed 3M Synchro final with Clare Cryan.
Cryan will be the final individual Irish diver in action in Doha when she takes to the 3M Springboard on Thursday.
The 30-year-old was just eight points off making the final and securing a place at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games the last time of asking, at the World Championships in Fukuoka, Japan in 2023.
A total of 56 divers will contest the preliminary round with the top 18 progressing to the semi-final. The top 12 in the semi-final will secure places for the Paris Games.
