Former Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech has joined Elite League ice hockey team Belfast Giants on loan.

The four-time Premier League winner plays for National Ice Hockey League side Oxford City Stars and has joined the Belfast Giants as temporary emergency cover.

"The Stena Line Belfast Giants can confirm that legendary Premier League goalkeeper and current Oxford City Stars shot stopper Petr Čech has joined the club on loan as temporary emergency cover," said the current Eilte League champions in a statement.

Adam Keefe, the Belfast Giants Head Coach, added: "We're very appreciative of the support of both the Oxford City Stars and Petr himself. Petr is a highly decorated athlete, who knows what it takes to perform at the highest level, so his support during this loan period will be invaluable."

Cech played with Chelsea for 11 seasons, where along with his four Premier League medals, he also won four FA Cups and the 2011/12 Champions League.

He went on to represent Arsenal, before returning the Stamford Bridge as technical and performance advisor, a role he left in June 2022.
