Nhat Nguyen has advanced to the last-16 at the European Badminton Championships in a day of mixed fortunes for Ireland's participants in Ukraine.

In the women's singles, Rachael Darragh, who beat Marija Sudimac of Serbia in her opening round match on Monday, lost to Ksenia Polikarpova in their last-32 encounter.

Letterkenny native Darragh was also in action in the mixed doubles alongside Paul Reynolds but the Irish duo were defeated 21-17 21-16 by the French pairing of Eloi Adam and Margot Lambert, who advance to the last-16.

But Chloe and Sam Magee have reached the last-16 in the mixed doubles in a three-game victory over Netherlands' Ties van der Lecq and Debora Jille, winning 21-14 19-21 21-14.

The Magee siblings will face Scottish duo Christopher Grimley and Eleanor O'Donnell on Thursday for a place in the quarter-finals.
