Cora Staunton has been recognised for her exploits this season for the Greater Western Sydney Giants with an inclusion in the AFLW's 2021 Team of the Year.

The 39-year-old Mayo star was part of a Giants team that failed to make the play-offs, but her goal-scoring prowess was enough to see her named among the forwards.

Staunton hit 10 goals during the regular season, with the selections based off the nine-round series.

The four-time All-Ireland winner joined the Giants in 2017 and recovered from a triple leg break two years ago to return to a rich vein of form Down Under.

Staunton is expected to commit to another season in Australia, but will only have a watching brief for next weekend’s preliminary finals, the penultimate weekend of the season, which will have plenty of Irish interest.

Staunton’s former Mayo team-mate Sarah Rowe, along with Cavan’s Aisling Sheridan, will be in the Collingwood squad which takes on Brisbane Lions, who have Tipperary’s Orla O’Dwyer at their disposal.

The other game will see the Adelaide Crows, where Ailish Considine plies her trade, take on a Melbourne Demons side who can call upon Dublin All-Ireland winners Lauren Magee, Niamh McEvoy and Sinéad Goldrick.
