Irish Olympian skier Thomas Westgard claimed a very credible 32nd place finish in the Men's 30 kilometre pursuit competition at the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in Oberstdorf.

The result represents Westgard's best finishing in a World Championships and he outpaced more than half of the 76-man field, completing the 30k course in a time of 1:16:08.3.

Westgard showed a significant improvement on this finishing place of 52nd at the same event in 2019 and improved on his time by almost two minutes.

Russia's Alexander Bolshunov claimed the gold medal in 1:11:33.9, ahead of a pack of five Norwegians with Simen Hegstad Krüger taking silver and bronze going to Hans Christer Holund.
