The coach of the late Russian-Australian Olympian Ekaterina Alexandrovskaya has said the 20-year-old died after falling from a sixth-floor window in Moscow.

Andrei Khekalo said Alexandrovskaya, who was born in Russia but became an Australian citizen in 2017, had retired from figure skating in January after injury and being diagnosed with epilepsy, and had also suffered from depression.

"I tried to get her to stay in sport at my own peril," Khekalo said.

Russian media reported that Alexandrovskaya left a note reading 'Lyublyu', which translates to English as 'I love' before dying suddenly on Saturday.

Harley Windsor, Alexandrovskaya's Australian skate partner at PyeongChang 2018, said he was "devastated" by her death and asked for donations to a GoFundMe page to cover the cost of her funeral.

"Words cannot describe how I feel right now, I am devastated and sick to my core about the sad and sudden passing of Katia," he said on Instagram.

"For Katia's funeral we want to flood the ceremony with flowers in memory. Please any help is appreciated."

International Skating Union President Jan Dijkema said the organisation was "shocked by the news of Ekaterina's passing.

"She was a talented pair skater and the Figure Skating community will miss her. We offer our deepest sympathies to her family, friends and teammates and mourn this tragic loss."
