As part of the Morning Ireland sporting moment series, we've been looking back on some of the best moments in Irish sport.
Today's offering is a little more obscure, but no less an accomplishment.
On this day 27 years ago, Dawson Stelfox became the first Irishman to conquer Everest, the world's highest mountain.
It was the coming together of an all-Irish team of 15, with eight climbers from the north and south setting out, but only Stelfox reached the summit.
Darren Frehill reflects on that momentous day on 27 May, 1993.
