Paralympics Ireland has announced a formal agreement with the Sport Ireland Institute that will see both organisations work together in partnership to support athletes on their journey to Tokyo 2020.

As part of the agreement, the Sport Ireland Institute will provide services to Irish athletes and Team Ireland, and will also provide sports science and medical support staff as part of the Irish Paralympic team that travels to next year's Paralympic Games.

Alan Swanton will provide performance analysis solutions, Emma Saunders will offer performance life skills support, David Tobin has been named as nutritionist to the team, Noel Murphy will head strength and conditioning support and Ciara Sinnott-O’Connor will act as the team’s performance physiologist.

Chef de Mission for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games Denis Toomey said of the announcement: "We are delighted to have the support of the Sport Ireland Institute at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games.

"The Sport Ireland Institute staff will make a great addition to Paralympics Ireland’s own sports science and medical team.

"The Sport Ireland staff are already very familiar with our Paralympic athletes and that trust that has been built up over time will be a major boost to the team as we prepare for the Tokyo Paralympic Games."
