Former RTÉ broadcaster and Irish Press sports editor Michael Fortune has passed away.
Originally from Bree in County Wexford, the renowned horseracing and greyhound commentator worked for many years with the Irish Press as Group Sports Editor, and was subsequently a broadcaster with RTÉ Sport at numerous race meetings.
Fortune also co-presented 'Night At The Dogs' for many years alongside Mícheál O'Muircheartaigh, as well as being a commanding authority in his chosen specialities.
He is survived by his wife Rita, son Ian, daughter Michelle, grandchildren Cara, Aoife, Conor and Saoirse, and extended family.
Thanks for all your kind words. My father went peacefully in the end. He was a great man, but most of all he was a great Dad. I wrote a little somethinghttps://t.co/xSWV7DfjBE

Chairman of the Irish Greyhound Board, Frank Nyhan, said: "Michael represented the heart of the Irish greyhound industry. His knowledge of each individual greyhound, trainer and all associated with the industry was unparalleled.
"Michael loved the sport and committed himself totally to it. His involvement in the Annual National Greyhound Awards ensured a quality event made all the better for Michael’s immense contribution.
"Michael was great company, ever pleasant and conscientious. Greyhound racing and the wider industry has lost a true friend. Bord na gCon extends its deepest sympathy to the Fortune family at this sad time."
