Irish archer Maeve Reidy has advanced to the next round at the European Games.

The Dubliner was the only Irish athlete in action on the opening day of the games in Minsk. She finished 29th out of 48 in the preliminary rounds of the Women's Recurve Individual, putting her in a solid position as she advances to the Elimination Rounds 1/32 on the 25 June.

Reidy climbed as high as 16th place by the halfway point, performing better than she had in two years.

"I’m really happy with how that went today," she said. "It’s been a long day and the heat was tough.

"The wind picked up a bit, and the heat picked up as well, so it was a bit trickier, I think it was affecting everyone, so I was happy with how I performed. We will have a few days training here and our matches on Tuesday."

Team Ireland are represented at the second edition of the games in Belarus by 63 athletes across nine sports, including boxer Kellie Harrington, cyclist Ryan Mullen and canoe sprint racer Jenny Egan.
