Irish shot-putter Deirdre Mongan is hoping to improve on her national record and contend for a medal at this month's IPC Paralympic Athletics World Championships in Doha, which take place from 22-31 October.
Mongan is ranked second in the world in the F53 Class after setting the Irish record in June but she is aware it will be a tough task to secure a medal.
"Even though I'm ranked second in the world, there are other girls who have the potential to throw better than me and have thrown better than me in the past," she told RTÉ Sport.
"I'm very aware of that but the way I look at it is if I go in and throw as well as I can do, I can't control what anyone else is doing. So I'm just going to look after my own performance.
"I managed to throw a personal best and Irish record in June so I'm hoping for the same when I get to Doha.
"I'd love to throw another Irish record. Once you throw your best, that's all you can really do.
"I'm really looking forward to it now. It's been a long year of preparation," said Mongan, who recently became a mother in addition to working full time and training . "It's great to just finally get going and hopefully do well over there."
