At the end of day five at the 2015 Special Olympics World Games, Ireland had increased its haul of medals to 33, winning an extra four gold, two silver and five bronze medals.

The Irish kayakers were in action at Long Beach, with Nuala Browne from Tyrone taking silver, with bronze for Rita Quirke from Co Kildare in the 500m.

They added to a bumper day in LA where Team Ireland continued their charge for medals. Cork woman Lisa O’Brien won two bronze on the athletics track, with a bronze for Dubliner Timothy Morahan.

The equestrian team were in fine form again with John Deevy from Waterford and Elizabeth Mair from Dublin both winning gold in dressage.

Anne Hoey from County Louth took silver in the Bocce singles.

Ruth Geerah from County Westmeath won gold in the bowling singles

Liam Foley from Co Meath won bronze for badminton  and Carole Catling from County Antrim won gold in her table tennis competition. making a total for 33 medals for Team Ireland.
