Boxer Sean McComb got Ireland off to a winning start at the European Games in Baku, Azerbaijan, today when the lightweight won his bout by a unanimous decision over Ukraine’s Tymur Beliak to reach the last 16.

Chloe Aboud, however, was defeated in the Taekwondo competition losing 14-6 in the women’s 67kg class to Finland’s Elin Johansson.

In wrestling, Alexander Dolly went down 4-0 to Taimuraz Friev Naskidaeva in his en's 86kg freestyle qualifiying round.

Caroline Ryan came in 15th in the women’s road cycling individual time-trial.

Ryan Mullen finished eighth in the men's road cycling individual time trial.

In the men's Individual All-Around gymnastic event Kieran Behan finished in 17th place with a combined score of 81.198.

Behan navigated his six events with just one penalty, coming in the parallel bars, but was unable to make any dent on the top ten.
