Ireland missed out on a medal by just under half a second at the European Games in Baku as Jennifer Egan finished fourth in the women's kayak single 5,000m final.

Egan was narrowly beaten to bronze by Hungarian Renata Csay who had earlier finished sixth in the 500m final.

Meanwhile, Peter Egan finished 21st in the men's 5000m K1 kayak single.

Also competing on the water today was Andrzej Jerzierski, who finished fourth in the B final of the 200m C1 Canoe sprint.

Irish boxers took to the ring for the first time today with Myles Casey at flyweight and heavyweight Darren O'Neill both having unanimous wins over Belarussian Ivan Fihurenka and Romania’s Ionut Jitaru respectively.

However, Kurt Walker lost on a split decision in his bantamweight bout with Russian Bakhtovar Nazirov.

Derek Burnett is placed 12th overall after the first day of qualification in the men's trap shooting.
