Number one seed Madeline Perry disposed of English qualifier Leonie Holt 11-7, 11-4, 11-4 in the first round of her final Irish Open at the Fitzwilliam Lawn Tennis Club.
Perry will be happy with her performance against the young English player, but will know she faces Olivia Blatchford (USA) tomorrow, the same player who beat her in last year's quarter-final.
Perry, with 20 years as a professional, will be well prepared for tomorrow's match, but the young American player arrives here fresh off a tournament win in Paderborn, Germany.
The crowds at Fitzwilliam Lawn Tennis Club were delighted to see two out of three Irish players make it through to the quarter-finals.
As well as Perry, Aisling Blake secured her place in the final eight after beating Tamika Saxby from Australia 11-7, 11-13, 11-3, 11-2.
"I was wary of her because I lost in Rotterdam in September to her. So I am delighted to get a win today, and I felt like I knew what I had to do," said Blake.
In the men’s event, number one seed Mazen Hesham of Egypt beat Irish number one Arthur Gaskin 11-4, 11-6, 11-3.
