Modern pentathlete Natalya Coyle won the bronze medal at last weekend’s Hungarian Indoor Open, achieving her and Ireland’s first ever individual medal in an international pentathlon event.

The medal represents a significant double for Coyle as the Dubliner also formed the other half of a duo with Eanna Bailey that won Ireland’s first and only medal in a team World Cup event in the US in February 2013, when they took silver in the mixed relay.

The 24-year-old has fought her way back from injury to chase a spot at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games and follow up on her impressive ninth-place finish at the London 2012 Games.

Natalya spoke to RTÉ Sport about her medal exploits in Hungary, for a discipline which comprises five events:  fencing, 200m freestyle swimming, show jumping, a final combined event of pistol shooting, and a 3200m cross-country run.
