The Oakland Raiders won their first NFL game in a year when they beat the Kansas City Chiefs 24-20 at the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum.

The Raiders had endured 16 straight defeats since they claimed their last victory by beating the Houston Texans on 17 November last year but they finally ended that miserable sequence against an in-form Kansas side that had won their last five games.

Raiders quarter-back Derek Carr threw a nine-yard touchdown pass to James Jones with one minute and 42 seconds remaining to secure victory, while Latavius Murray ran for two touchdowns on four carries before leaving the game with a concussion.

Alex Smith threw for 234 yards and two touchdowns for the Chiefs but they could not maintain their recent fine form.
