Kevin Kilty has resigned from his post as the Olympic Council of Ireland’s honorary treasurer.
Kilty, who led the OCI shooting team at Beijing 2008 and London 2012, was appointed to act as Ireland’s chef de mission at Rio 2016.
The 50-year-old’s resignation letter is expected to be read out at a meeting tonight at the beleaguered organisation’s headquarters in Howth.
It’s also anticipated that the findings of an OCI-commissioned report carried out by Deloitte into the organisation’s’ governance will be examined.
Kilty was one of a number of senior OCI officials to be questioned by police in Brazil during a ticket touting probe.
He was subsequently released by the authorities without charge.
Kilty did play an important role in highlighting the part OCI President Pat Hickey played in the ticketing controversy.
Hickey awaits trial in Brazil and has stood down from his position, pending the outcome of legal proceedings.
In his absence, Willie O’Brien has stepped into the breach.
Kilty’s departure is the second high-profile resignation O’Brien has had to accept this week.
Football Association of Ireland chief executive John Delaney stepped down from his role as OCI vice-president on Tuesday, insisting that Irish soccer remained his priority, while also distancing himself from operational facet of the OCI.
