Alex Dunne was a frustrated figure after crashing out of the Formula 2 feature race in Miami on Sunday.
Dunne lost control of his car after going wide at the final corner of the track, venturing into barriers.
The Offaly driver had finished third in the sprint race 24 hours earlier and was sixth during the 10th lap of the main event, before the mishap.
"I'm so sorry, I locked up," Dunne told his Rodin Motorsport team immediately afterwards.
The safety car was deployed in wet conditions in the race won by Gabriele Minì of MP Motorsport.
