Ireland's Casey O’Gorman will start from second on the grid for tomorrow’s Moto3 Grand Prix at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas.

The Portlaoise native becomes the first Irish rider in the modern Moto3 era to secure a front-row start.

O’Gorman has shown strong pace throughout the weekend, consistently running inside the top ten during practice.

Despite that, a front-row position came as a surprise but the way he achieved it was particularly impressive.

In the closing stages of qualifying, O’Gorman produced a flying lap to go second fastest.

Although he was briefly pushed down the order, he responded in spectacular fashion to reclaim the position.

His final lap of 2:12.519 was set while navigating traffic around the 5.515 km circuit — a rare achievement during the typically frantic end to a qualifying session.

Considering this is O’Gorman’s first visit to the Texas track, the performance further underlines the young rider’s exceptional talent.

The Moto3 Grand Prix gets under way at 6pm Irish time on Sunday.
