Offaly's Alex Dunne produced another remarkable Formula 2 drive on Saturday, overcoming two grid penalties to finish second in the Barcelona sprint race and regain the championship lead.
Last weekend Dunne (Rodin Motorsport) was among seven drivers eliminated from the feature race in Monaco after being involved in a first-lap collision at the opening corner.
He was subsequently given a 10-place grid penalty for the sprint race, and a further three-place grid penalty after running into the back of another car when entering the pits during Friday's free practice session.
It meant the 19-year-old started Saturday's race in 19th and with a serious mountain to climb. However Dunne got his strategy absolutely spot on to weave his way to second, behind MP Motorsport's Richard Verschoor.
Dunne is now top of the standings with 76 points ahead of Sunday's feature race, for which he also has a three-place grid penalty. Luke Browning (Hitech TGR) is his closest challenger on 72 points.
In April, he claimed his first grand prix victory in F2 when he won in Bahrain, following that up with a third-placed finish in Saudi Arabia, and then another victory at Imola.
