Haas have promoted Newry native Ronan O'Hare to race engineer as part of a raft of personnel changes, with Laura Muller becoming the first woman in Formula One to occupy the same position.

The careers of O'Hare and Muller have shared a similar recent trajectory as they have been risen from performance engineer positions at the American-licensed team.

An alumnus of the University of Ulster, the Armagh man previously spent time at the now-defunct Honda Racing F1 Team, Brawn GP and Scuderia Toro Rosso, as well as at Mercedes and Williams.

O'Hare will work with 19-year-old British driver Oliver Bearman and Muller will engage with Frenchman Esteban Ocon in an all-new driver line-up set to debut at the Australian Grand Prix on 16 March.

Bearman competed in three races last season, finishing seventh on debut when deputising for the ill Carlos Sainz at Ferrari before twice stepping in for Haas's Kevin Magnussen.

Haas finished seventh in the constructors’ championship last season, their highest finish since 2018, losing out on sixth to Alpine at the final race of the season.

Ahead of their 10th season in the sport, team principal Ayao Komatsu believes further improvement is possible, building on last year's consistency.

"We were fighting for P6 in the championship until the last race – we ended up P7 – so for us our baseline target is to fight at that same level," he said.

"We have never performed at that consistent level, even within a season. Even our most successful season in 2018, we were not at that consistent level.

"The new personnel does not change that. The reason we have changed some personnel is I felt that we left too many points on the table last year.

"We proved that we can produce a competitive car so now we have to be able to maximise it and use it."
