Craig Breen relinquished the overall lead but remains poised in second ahead of Sunday's final day of action at Rally Sweden.
The Waterford native and co-driver James Fulton have enjoyed a strong run in the second event of this year's World Rally Championship, holding a narrow 2.6-second lead at the start of Saturday's stages on the ice-covered tracks of Scandinavia.
But Estonia's Ott Tanak and co-driver Martin Jarveoja have now overtaken Breen and Fulton, taking an 8.6-second lead into Sunday.
But Breen, who has a part-time drive for Hyundai this season, is a further 15.1 seconds clear of third-placed Thierry Neuville of Belgium. His strongest stage was the 10th which he completed in a time of 12:11.5.
The 2023 Rally Sweden is taking place in the city of Umeå, located 600 kilometres north of the capital Stockholm.
