The Tarmac Rally Organisers' Association has confirmed that this year’s Irish Tarmac Rally Championship will not take place and follows the cancellation of last year's series.

The current situation across Ireland has already led to the cancellation of the ITRC’s regular opening three rounds – the Galway International Rally, the West Cork International Rally, and the Circuit of Ireland.

For now, May's Rally of the Lakes in Killarney, June's Donegal International, the Ulster Rally in August and the Cork 20 in September remain, but would run as standalone events, should they get the go ahead.

"The decision to cancel the 2021 championship was taken at a recent virtual meeting between TROA board of directors," said TROA chairman Colman Hegarty.

"The decision was made because of the uncertainty surrounding the running of events given the current Covid-19 situation".

"Three events have already been cancelled and ongoing restrictions mean that there is a degree of uncertainty regarding the other four events".

"The board decided it was in the best interest of all stakeholders to cancel this year’s championship."
