Northern Ireland's Kris Meeke registered the fastest time in Thursday's shakedown for the Rally of Spain.

Second behind Meeke (Toyota) by 0.3 seconds was home favourite Dani Sordo (Hyundai), while Meeke's Finnish team-mate Jari-Matti Latvala was another 0.4 seconds adrift in third.

Estonia's Ott Tanak (Toyota), who is aiming to secure his maiden World Rally Championship title this weekend, was sixth in Salou.

Tanak was quoted on wrc.com as saying: "It's just like another rally. For sure, there is pressure but there is also no point in thinking about this. It might feel close but it is actually so far."

The 32-year-old is 28 points clear of France's second-placed reigning champion Sebastien Ogier (Citroen) heading into this, the penultimate round of the season.

Third-placed Thierry Neuville (Hyundai) of Belgium is 41 points behind Tanak.
