Motorsport legend Martin Birrane dies aged 82

Former motorsport driver and team owner Martin Birrane has passed away at the age of 82.

The Mayo man competed in the Le Mans 24 Hours race ten times as a driver and was the owner of racing manufacturer Lola Cars International.

Birrane is also widely credited as being the man who saved Mondello Park circuit after he bought the venue in 1986 and brought major events to the track.
