Donegal’s Declan Boyle in a Fiesta WRC has won the Martin Howley Memorial Donegal Harvest Rally in Killybegs - the final round of the Triton Showers National Rally Championship.

Boyle and his co-driver cousin Brian Boyle finished one minute 39.4 seconds ahead of the Subaru WRC of Manus Kelly and Gareth Doherty, with Niall Maguire and Enda Sherry, also in a Subaru, one minute 40.9 seconds further behind in third.

Boyle led from the start and went on to punch in the fastest time for all of the eight stages around Killybegs to claim second place in the Championship, with the series already won by Clonmel’s Roy White (Fiesta WRC) and his Cork co-driver James O’Brien.

The Boyle cousins after victory

Garry Jennings and Rory Kennedy in their S12B Subaru WRC were the closest rivals and were 37 seconds adrift after the sixth stage. However, they retired on the penultimate stage with engine woes.

Their demise allowed Donegal’s Manus Kelly (Subaru WRC) take the runner up spot. Maguire had an untroubled outing to take third.

Cavan’s Gary Kiernan (Escort) and his Donegal co-driver Ryan Moore won the Modified category – where Chris Armstrong (Escort) retired on the penultimate stage when he slid off the road.

The Group N category was won by Aidan Wray and co-driver Kieran McGrath (Mitsubishi Evo X), they finished 22.3 seconds ahead of the Mitsubishi Evo IX of Monaghan’s Shane Maguire and Kierans.

Wray clinched back to back titles in the Motorsport Safety Group N category of the Triton Showers series.
