Ireland’s Craig Breen has been demoted from first place at the Rallye International du Valais after it was found that his team had used too many tyres.
Breen finished first and it had appeared as though the Waterford man had added another title to his growing list of honours.
But it emerged following a report from the technical delegate that Breen used 20 marked tyres during the rally – over the maximum allowed of 18.
He was slapped with a two minute penalty and as a consequence Alexey Lukyanuk in his Ford Fiesta R5 was declared the the winner of the last round of the 2015 FIA European Rally Championship.
Peugeot Rally Academy driver Breen dropped down to second place in Switzerland with home driver Olivier Burri third.
