Norway's Andreas Mikkelsen collected his first major race win on Sunday in a dramatic finish to the 2015 RallyRACC-Catalunya.

World champion Sebastien Ogier threw away a seemingly unassailable 50.9 seconds lead on the final test when he crashed into a guard rail.

The Frenchman's misfortune provided the 26-year old Mikkelsen with his maiden world championship victory to add to his 12 top-three finishes in the Polo R WRC/Michelin since 2013.

"I don't know what to say, it is just incredible," Mikkelsen said. "I don't believe it. It is not the way I want to win my first WRC rally.

"We have been fighting hard, we struggle on the gravel and fighting hard on tarmac. It was really close before the last stage, Ogier did a mistake and we won."
