Volkswagen's Sebastien Ogier claimed his third successive Rally Italia Sardegna victory and fourth win of the WRC season to extend his lead at the top of the Drivers' Championship.

The Frenchman started the final day in Sardinia with a commanding lead and won by over three minutes, with victory in the Power Stage earning him three bonus points.

Reigning champion Ogier moves on to 70 points in the Drivers' Championship - more than double that of his nearest rival.

"I am very pleased," said the 31-year-old after his sixth-round win.

"I did not expect this kind of result here. The times got better and better but in the car I was driving just the same.

"It was very difficult to open the road, but everything worked perfectly - from the car to the weather forecasts."

Hyundai driver Hayden Paddon enjoyed a first podium finish after finishing second, having led for 15 stages. He also made history by becoming the first New Zealander to lead a WRC event outside of the country.

Paddon said: "We had to nurse it through the last few stages as we still have a small problem with the car, so lucky to get here.

"It has been a very challenging weekend and a massive thanks to everybody supporting me - at home and at the team. I can't have wished for anything more from here. There is though much more to come."

Paddon's team-mate Thierry Neuville snatched third on the final day after Citroen's Mads Ostberg went off the road in SS20 and damaged his brakes, while M-Sport's Elfyn Evans finished fourth.
