Ireland's Peugeot Rally Academy driver Craig Breen holds the lead in his Peugeot 208 at the end of day two of the Sata Rallye Azores, the fourth round of the European Rally Championship.

Breen, who leads the series after wins in Latvia and on the Circuit of Ireland, round three of the series, has a 2.3 second advantage over Polish driver Kajetan Kajetanowicz in his Ford Fiesta.

It was a day-long battle between the two drivers, who lie first and second in the championship standings respectively, with Breen at one stage falling 5.6 seconds in arrears midway through yesterday’s stages.

However, Waterford man Breen had the better of the times over today's second set of stages, and he retook what was a marginal lead ahead of tomorrow’s final six stages.

The battle for overall victory would now seem to between the pair which saw them stretch out a 1 minute 20 second advantage over the chasing pack - led by third-placed local driver Ricardo Moura in his Citroen.

Monaghan's Josh Moffett, fourth overnight, saw his rally come to a violent end after he crashed his Ford Fiesta after the flying finish to stage four.

Josh's brother Sam came safely through to the end of day two and he lies seventh overall, albeit over four and a half minutes behind Breen.
