Donegal’s Declan Boyle and Brian Boyle (Subaru WRC) won the Oakwood Arms Hotel Clare Rally, the penultimate round of the Dunlop National Rally Championship to maintain their hopes of back-to-back national titles.

They finished a minute and 14.4 seconds ahead of the similar car of Welsh driver Hugh Hunter and his co-driver Andy Marchbank.

Clonmel’s Roy White and his Cork co-driver James O’Brien, in an MG ZR, were a minute and 16.2 seconds further behind in third.

All three along with Paddy McVeigh (Subaru WRC), who was fourth in Clare and Steve Wood (Subaru WRC), who retired on the opening stage remain in the title equation and the series will be decided on next month’s final round, the Donegal Harvest Rally.

Shane Maguire and Stephen Thornton (Mitsubishi) won the Group N category.

Maguire has strengthened his lead over fellow Monaghan man Josh Moffett in the Motorsport Safety Group N.

The Dunlop Junior National Rally Championship was won by Roscommon’s Cormac Phelan/Katja Auhl (Citroen C2).
