Jari-Matti Latvala beat team-mate Sebastien Ogier to win Rally Argentina.
It was Volkswagen's ninth consecutive World Rally Championship victory, breaking the record previously held by Citroen.
Latvala began the day with a commanding 31-second lead and extended that to one minute 29.6 seconds over series leader Ogier.
The Frenchman conceded defeat after the first of four stages on Sunday when he lost another 16 seconds to Latvala.
Visibility was poor and conditions very slippery, and Ogier said on wrc.com: "I never push in this stage.
"It's a lottery in here so I prefer to just drive through. We can't win all the time but I'm happy because this proves it's not easy to win. Jari-Matti deserves it."
Citroen's Tyrone man Kris Meeke, who finished third in the rally, described the second stage as the most difficult he had ever driven because of the mud and fog.
Meeke and co-driver Paul Nagle finished five minutes and 54 seconds behind Latvala.
Ogier finished the race on a high by picking up three bonus points for going fastest on the Power Stage, meaning Latvala only reduced his overall lead to 29 points.
