Craig Breen has dropped to second place in the FIAERC Rally Liepāja-Ventspils after the first loop of stages this morning.
Breen trails Finnish driver Jeri Ketomaa by just one second ahead of three more stages this afternoon.
Breen, who celebrates his 23rd birthday today, held the overnight lead of 6.4 seconds over Ketomaa after setting fastest times on all of yesterday’s three stages.
He continued his blistering pace this morning as the rally resumed with stage 4, going fastest again and the Irish driver, partnered this weekend by Cork’s David Moynihan, made it five fastest times in a row on SS5, extending their advantage to 10 seconds.
But on the final stage in the morning loop, Ketomaa hit back on stage 6 by pulling back 11.7 seconds on the Peugeot Sport Academy driver to hold a single second lead.
Three more stages remain this afternoon with the final stage today scheduled to start at 15.20hrs Irish time.
