Craig Breen is lying in second in the Super 2000 category and 13th overall after Day One of the World Rally Portugal, round three of the Super S2000 World Championship.
Breen set the pace as the event began in Lisbon with a ‘Superspecial City Stage’, leading by 1.7 seconds from New
Zealand’s Hayden Paddon after the 3.27km test.
Paddon took over at the front after a 200km road stage as the rally headed south and switched from road to gravel, opening up a 20.9s lead.
Breen, the current World Academy champion and leader of the SWRC racehit back with the fastest time on SS3, narrowing Paddon’s lead to 15.6s.
But Paddon replied by going fastest on the final stage of the day, gaining another nine seconds to lead by 24.6s. Friday will see the drivers tackle six special stages.
