Bruno Senna has revealed he is in negotiations to drive for Renault for the remainder of the season.
Renault finally confirmed yesterday the speculation floating around this week that Senna would replace Nick Heidfeld for this weekend's Belgian Grand Prix.
The Brazilian has today announced he will also be in the car for the Italian Grand Prix at Monza in a fortnight's time.
Beyond that is still up in the air as he concedes "there are still some legal issues to be resolved", with Renault understood to be trying to negotiate a deal with Heidfeld to stand down.
The veteran German was recruited at the start of the year as replacement for Robert Kubica following his horrendous rallying accident in February.
Team principal Eric Boullier, however, has been unable to hide his disappointment of late at Heidfeld's performances.
With talks ongoing, Senna said: "I cannot confirm if I am doing the rest of the year or not, but the intention is to do it."
With just one practice session behind him this season for Renault, at the last race in Hungary, Senna knows he faces a battle to get up to speed.
"It's going to be a big challenge to start driving now just past the middle of the season," said Senna, recruited by Renault as reserve driver following his release from Hispania Racing for whom he drove in 18 of the 19 grands prix last year.
"But I've been participating in all the meetings with the engineers so I'm very much up to date with what's going on in the team.
"The Friday in Hungary was very useful for me to get a feel for the car, but it's going to be a big uphill battle to get up to the level of the other guys who have been driving for 11 races.
"But the fact my Renault debut is here in Spa is very special as it's my favourite circuit, and historically I've done very well here.
"So hopefully I can progress fast and do a good job for these guys because it's the best way to appreciate the opportunity they have given me."
