World Superbikes series leader Carlos Checa enjoyed two wins from two at Miller Motorsport Park.
The Spaniard was a class apart in securing his fifth and sixth wins over the year, beating Aprilia Alitalia pair Leon Camier of Britain and Italy's Max Biaggi comfortably on his Ducati in the day's second race at Salt Lake.
Checa, who had been on pole for both races, therefore strengthened his championship lead, now sitting on 195 points compared to Melandri's 134 and Biaggi's 133.
Yamaha's Eugene Laverty was fourth and Michel Fabrizio did admirably to return with a fifth for Suzuki Alstare.
