Superbike World Championship series leader Carlos Checa will start tomorrow's two races at Miller Motorsport Park on pole position after today's Superpole qualifying.

The Spaniard had sat in second after Superpole Two, but recorded a time of one minute 48.315 seconds to place his Ducati ahead of team-mate Jakub Smrz (1m 48.390secs).

The Yamahas of Marco Melandri and Ireland's Eugene Laverty will occupy third and fourth place on the grid, with Sylvain Guintoli fifth, Troy Corser sixth, Max Biaggi seventh and Ayrton Badovini making up the top eight.

A time of 1m 49.432secs earned Britain's Tom Sykes a starting position of 10th, with compatriots Leon Camier and Leon Haslam directly behind him.

James Toseland was down in 18th on his BMW.

Checa said: ‘I really like this track, but the bike doesn't so much! We had some problems that we solved and I hope everything is going to be fine.

‘We've been working quite well in the dry, and finally when it was getting dry I was able to get more grip and that's the main reason I was able to fight for the pole. It's a nice surprise.’
