Ferrari have been forced to change their rear wing for the rest of this weekend's Spanish Grand Prix after the sport's governing body the FIA declared it illegal.

FIA technical director Charlie Whiting confirmed last night that Ferrari were under investigation due to a technical infringement relating to the rear wing that gave the cars an aerodynamic performance advantage.

In light of the investigation a Ferrari spokesman said: ‘We have been told the wing is not legal, so we have had to change.’

Both cars, driven by Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa, now carry a rear wing that conforms to the rules ahead of today's practice, the qualifying session and for tomorrow's race.
