Carlos Sainz claimed a record-breaking 23rd Dakar Rally stage win on today's run from San Juan to Cordoba as Nasser Al-Attiyah consolidated his position at the top of the overall standings.
Defending champion Sainz, a former World Rally champion, comfortably came out on top on the 555-kilometre test to secure his sixth stage win of this year's event and move past Stephane Peterhansel's record of 22 stage wins.
Sainz's Volkswagen team-mate Giniel de Villiers was second on the day while Al-Attiyah took a steady approach to finish the day third, giving up six minutes and 11 seconds to Sainz.
Despite giving away that chunk of time today the Qatari driver still holds a massive lead of over 48 minutes over De Villiers, with Spaniard Sainz a further 32 minutes back after losing 48 minutes with a suspension problem on yesterday's stage.
The final stage of the event takes place tomorrow around the Buenos Aires province ahead of Sunday's ceremonial finish.
