Casey Stoner has confirmed he is well on the road to recovery ahead of his return to the FIM MotoGP World Championship in Portugal.

The Ducati Marlboro rider has been resting in his native Australia as he bids to recover from the severe fatigue he has been suffering from since June.

Stoner struggled through races in Spain, Holland, America, Germany and England before being advised by doctors to miss races at the last three GPs at Brno, Indianapolis and Misano.

The 2007 MotoGP world champion aims to return for the Portuguese Grand Prix at Estoril on October 4.

Stoner has spent time at his family home at Tamworth in New South Wales and also been fishing in the Northern Territory.

He told the Northern Territory News: ‘I feel I'm getting better up here, and my appetite has really come back.

‘We caught lots of fish, saw huge crocs and amazing bird life.’
