Robert Barrable from Swords in County Dublin wrote his name in to Irish motorsport history when his Swift took victory in the Formula Ford race at Mondello Park.

The Leinster Trophy has been one by some of the busiest names in sport, including Ayrton Senna and Mikka Hakkinen.

On a day spoilt somewhat by heavy, incessant rain, the first big casualty of the race was Patrick McKenna - one of the big favourites for the event - when he outbraked into turn one and the RAY ended up in the gravel trap.

Up ahead, Barrable, who stated from pole position , took advantage of McKenna’s absence to open up a huge lead early in the race which he never relinquished.

Overall, it was a great day for the Barrable brothers. While Robert won, Peter Barrable was third behind Paul Dagg after a teriffic scrap for the other podium places.
