Earlier this week Eugene Laverty flew out to the United States to compete in this weekend’s MotoGP 250cc race at the Red Bull Indianapolis Grand Prix.

A new circuit beckons for all the rid¬ers this weekend at the famous Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The circuit has been resurfaced and final enhancements were being made this week.

Not only is it the first visit to the circuit for Laverty but it is also his first visit to the United States.

Following a disappointing crash from 12th position last time out at Misano Laverty felt frustrated but is determined to clinch a top dozen finish in Indianapolis.

Laverty said: ‘What have I got to do to achieve my first top 12? I looked set for 11th in Misano before I suffered a strange spill mid-race. Last weekend I finished 12th at Donington Park in the World Supersport race so I’ll be hoping to do the same this weekend on the 250.

‘I’m looking forward to riding the new Indianapolis circuit. No one has any advantage in track knowledge or previous data so it could make things a little more interesting.

‘The weather forecast doesn’t look so good for Friday and Saturday though which will make learning the circuit that bit trickier. Bad weather seems to follow me this year as I brought rain to Donington WSB last weekend as well!

‘I’ll do as many laps as possible by scooter before we hit the track on Friday to help me learn the circuit. Last year I had to learn thirteen circuits so just one this year shouldn’t prove too difficult.’
