Following a great performance throughout qualifying, Blusens Aprilia rider Eugene Laverty could only manage 16th in Sunday's MotoGP 250cc race at Brno in the Czech Republic.
Laverty sat 7th overnight Friday before being bumped down to 12th in final qualifying on Saturday afternoon. Nevertheless, it was a career best qualifying for the Irishman who took advantage of the tricky conditions which befell practice.
It was a disappointing race for Laverty, who suffered from front tyre wear during the final half of the race.
Commenting after the race, Laverty said: ‘I’m angry with how that one went. I lost six positions in turn one when I was almost forced off track, then on lap three Lai pushed me wide losing me three positions. As a result I lost touch with the guys up ahead and effectively it cost me a points scoring finish.
‘On lap 9 of 20 I began to lose the front and with half the race remaining I knew it was going to be a struggle to catch Baldolini for 15th. At the finish I was surprised to see that I finished just 46secs back from the race winner which shows progress.
‘However, I’d much rather have some points to show for my efforts!’
The next round takes place in San Marino in a fortnight’s time.
