Barrable wins Dunlop award for May

20-year-old Robert Barrable from Swords has been selected Dunlop Young Racing Driver of the Month for May, writes John Kenny.

The young Dubliner's performances during the month, which included a pair of wins at the 40th anniversary meeting at Mondello Park, have given him the award and he has since scored another double victory at Knockhill in Scotland.

Robert began his motorsport career in karting at the age of 13. Since then, he has progressed through the karting ranks, finishing third in the Irish Karting Club's Rotax Max Championship in 2006 before moving up to his current Formula Ford 1600 Swift.

With backing from sponsors World Wide Cars and Michael Barrable Motors, he hopes to maintain his lead in the Irish FF1600 Championship and would like to contest the UK Formula Ford series next year.

Robert is the second recipient for 2008, and is now a contender for the prestigious Motorsport Ireland Young Racing Driver of the Year Award, the total prize fund of which is €50,000.

The award is presented annually and is sponsored by Irish Dunlop Ltd, with additional support from the Irish Sports Council and Motorsport Ireland.
